Personality traits describe, relative to other people, individuals’ characteristic patterns of feeling, thinking and acting, which tend to have a high frequency or intensity. As a result, they offer valuable insights into people’s day-to-day behaviour, as well as their strengths and weaknesses.

Understanding personality in terms of individual differences among people serves to make informed decisions in the field of human resources, contributing to the comparison of individuals from a pool of candidates. Understanding personality in terms of how the various parts of a person come together as a whole reflect the degree of person-environment fit based on the criteria selected by the employer as a benchmark for the ideal candidate.

It contributes to the selection of the best match for the position and the organisation.

The current personality assessment is based on the large body of existing research on the Big Five personality dimensions (Zillig, Hemenover, & Dienstbier, 2002), including the existing Big Five inventories (Costa, & McCrae, 1995) in English speaking countries. It is a self-report questionnaire designed to measure the Big Five dimensions of personality: Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Emotional Stability.

Each dimension consists of several traits, measured by the corresponding subscales as follows:

  • Openness to Experience: Flexibility, Learning Orientation, Creativity, Open-Mindedness, Diversity Appreciation, Cautiousness, Analysis Orientation.
  • Conscientiousness: Dependability, Quality Orientation, Achievement Striving, Perseverance, Maintained Focus, Rule Following, Deliberation, Being Organised, Detail Orientation.
  • Extraversion: Sociability, Self-Monitoring, Productivity, Multi-Tasking, Leadership Orientation, Assertiveness.
  • Agreeableness: Cooperation, Optimism, Consideration, Team Orientation, Helpful Attitude, Empathy.
  • Emotional Stability: Stress Tolerance, Composure, Patience, Resilience, Authenticity, Receptivity to Feedback, Integrity.

Assessment Outcomes

A person’s personality profile can highlight how they perform when they are at their best. As a result, personality is a good predictor of job performance. In addition, a high level of job-person fit based on one’s personality tends to lead to increased satisfaction and work engagement. Lastly, it may predict the extent to which individuals engage in job crafting behaviours (i.e., redesigning their work in order to achieve better results and make it more meaningful), or various extra-role behaviours like voluntarily offering assistance to others, or openly defending the organisation's objectives.
